It might be known as Powder Springs today, but for a long time, this area was actually called Springville. When it was first incorporated in 1838, it was renowned for the gold that had recently been found in the area. While this brought a lot of settlers to the city, they largely missed out on the gold rush. While Springville was originally named after the local springs in the area, the name was modified after closer examination. Thanks to the minerals in these springs, the sand turns a dark, sooty black. The name “Powder Springs” quickly became more common, and the rest is history.
